Sick mommy here

I know I haven't been posting much lately and I am truly sorry about that.  I've been struggling with being sick and still having to do everything in my power (and then some...) to keep the home running, the kids safe and fed, the bills paid, etc, etc...

Add to that two van breakdowns a week apart from eachother that had me stranded in a neighboring town and the added stress of David being extra ancy lately and my hands are pretty overwhelmingly full.

Please be patient with me though and I promise I will be back and blogging as soon as I can.  On a side note though I would like to share some good news that we got lately. :)  For one, the threat to my license (see past blog posts) has finally been silenced so that's a definite relief.  And another good thing that happened is David got accepted into an Autism service dog program. :D  We're pretty excited about that one. :)  Struggling with getting the fundraising off the ground but we did finally get our first official donation. :)  A dog bed with matching blanket and toy to be used as a raffle prize. :)  Pretty cool huh? :)

Anyway, I got to get going for now.  Please leave comments if you can.  I would greatly appreciate it. :)

Green grass? Sure. We've got at least some. :)

I just read a recent blog post by Autsim Daddy (one of my favorite bloggers) and wanted to share his blog and my response on here for you guys too.  His blog is a good reminder to count our blessings. :)  We all need that reminder from time to time. :)

David isn't doing so great lately but he still has his things that I am thankful for. For isntance he's very loving and cuddly. He may not

Tips/advice on how to help best and let us (Autism families) know you care :)

I had to share Autism Daddy's post on what to say/do when dealing with an Autism parent if you are wanting to be helpful and/or supportive.  He gathered links and info from several great articles and picked out his favorite to highlight in his blog (he also included the links to the articles so we all can check out the rest of the advice and tips).

If you have ever wondered about what you could or should say and/or do

What "Autism" means here

I've been asked more than once to explain what life with my Autistic child(ren) are like. (Josh is still not officially diagnosed but the doctor and I are thinking moderate level).

Yeah there are a lot of great lists out there and a lot of symptoms I could share about and even incidents/stories I could tell, but I've noticed these are never able to truly give a clear picture. Friends and family are not always able to prepare as much as they wish they could for their

This speaking thing might be a bit overrated after all lol

I love that David's verbal skills are finally starting to show improvement even though still most of the time it's just echolalia. However... the easier it gets to understand what he's saying when he finally says something on his own, the more I find myself in

Thoughts on DSM-V revisions

I just got done reading a wonderful blog post about the DSM-V Revisions for Autism Spectrum Disorder written by Aspierations - Come as you are... Let your light shine!  I found out about the blog by my friend over at Speaking On The Spectrum (great blog for keeping up with Autism news and articles ;) :)  )

I believe this blog did a great job of not only explaining the whole confusing mess we have all found ourselves in the middle of, but also

a good reminder :)

I was regretting the past and fearing the future. Suddenly, I heard God speaking. "My name is 'I AM.'"

He paused. I waited.

He continued, "When you live in the past with its mistakes and regrets, it is hard for you because I am not there. My name is not 'I WAS.'

When you live in the future with its unknowns and fears, it is hard for you because I am not there. My name is not 'I WILL BE.'

"But when you live in this moment, it is not hard, because I am here. My name is 'I AM'."

David vs Operator lol

Sitting here in front of the couch (David took over my seat on the couch lol) and catching up on a little while my kids play behind me.  David has found the phone and usually he just likes pressing buttons but this time he's intent on getting to call and "talk" to someone so I convinced him to give it back to me long enough for me to dial an automated (and free) operator assistance line (Free 411) and he's now happily chatting with the computer system. lol :)  It's kind of funny to listen to because the automated system doesn't even have a chance at understanding him because other than the obvious fact that David's verbal ability is still way behind, he's also not about to follow the prompts and say what the computer system wants him to. lol

The funniest part though was when he started in with his echolalia again. lol  The computer voice would say, "choose an option", and then David would say, "choose an option" and the poor computer would say, "I did not understand your request, please choose an option" and David would say, "pease choose option." lol  I love it when an automated system gets confused. lol
I had a hard morning today like I kind of expected, but it helped to know I was being prayed for. Later in the day though, closer to evening, I got hit hard in an area I wasn't even expecting to have to deal with today let alone face more pain from it... and as if that wasn't enough... more reality quickly slapped me in the face just  a couple of hours later from another source.

Sometimes I wish I could just start over... scrap everything, take out the trash, pick up my kids, and just go. Where to? I don't know... just somewhere that we can have a fresh start and new begining I guess... and a place where we can enjoy safety and peace and maybe even eventually find love...

Comfort for the weary

Today was a hard day with a painful ending... The following verse and song I found very comforting tonight considering everything so I

The incident behind my last post. (for those who were wondering)

Some one had the gall to corner my son and pick on him and verbally attack him and make a scene of him when he hadn't even done anything wrong. All he did was simply turn around (we were on our way out the door) and when he saw I had stopped, he calmly said "come on". Something I had been saying for almost the entire last 3 to 5 minutes so he was more than likely just repeating as he tends to do that all the time.

He wasn't even rude about it and that woman ripped into him and then had the nerve to try and rip into me when I came to David's defense. She was claiming that David was a perfect example of how rotten and bratty kids are these days and how they're ruining our future and then accused me of being a worthless, useless, and incompetent and neglectful mother. All because my son simply said "come on".

And guess where we were leaving at the time. THE EMERGENCY ROOM! That's right. This jerk was trying to make a puplic ridicule and example of an innocent child after he just had a traumatic experience and failed health at the EMERGENCY ROOM!

You can't get any lower than that if you ask me.

Progress! this time though it was Mommy's :)

This "momma rottweiler" is slowly but surely learning the art of calming down enough to be a more effective "momma bear".

As usual, the jerks hit and interfere at the worst possible times and when you need them to just leave you alone the most, but this time I was able to put the woman back in her place firmly, and rather quickly considering the situation, without loosing my cool or my temper (even

time for something lighter :)

David and Joshua have started getting really into bowing and kissing my hand. lol  It's sooo cute. :)  My own personal prince charmings.  At least when they want to be. lol ;)

Just felt like I needed to post this here one, to capture the memory and two, to help offset a little from the day I had and the posts that came from it.

Autism can really stink sometimes (it's been a hard day)

When your child can't keep his clothes on without a fight, Autism stinks.

When your 4 year old is still in diapers with no potty training successes in sight, Autism stinks.

When your kid honestly can't understand why you're saying no to the new movie that he's already become severely emotionally attached to

Need a chance to vent/release

Everyone who has lived with Autism, either through themselves or through a loved one (or both), knows there are good days and there are bad days.  There are things that will make you laugh, smile, and "stop and smell the roses.  And then there are the things that make you scream, cry, and want to hide under a rock.

Today was full of the latter sadly...  It had a few bright spots too but it

Which perspective will you choose?

Yeah David! :)

David just made an "L" with his legos! And came to show me!  This is so fantatstic! :D  He's truly learning his letters! YEAH!!! :D :)

-- one VERY excited Momma :)

Not quite so uneventful ;) :)

A dramatic fake cry/whine that mimics bratty kid characters in some sitcom situation (David's learning how to throw tantrums... good thing or bad? lol)

A spontaneous greeting of "Hola!" when he saw the Spanish speaking worker today while we were at our favorite McDonald's (I didn't realize

Where's The Path? (an encouraging devotional by Max Lucado)

Every once in a while I run across a devotional that I want to share in hopes it can help and/or encourage others like it has me.  This is one of those times. :)  The following is a devotion done by Max Lucado.

Seek a RELATIONSHIP with Him, not a religion about Him

Found this through a fellow blogger (

This was beautifully done and speaks so much truth into a world of hurt, confusion, and judgemental attitudes.

I am reminded of a phrase I once heard early on in my faith that I never let go of. I can’t quote it, but the main jist of it was relationship vs religion. Seek a relationship with Him, not a religion about Him.

Please watch this video and feel free to pass it on if you wish.  It's message is true and needs to be heard.  Thanks :)

Definitely worth the watching. So true. So needed to be heard.

Don't Quit (an encouraging poem)

Don't Quit
by: Edgar A. Guest

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

Unschooling in a school focused world

After having a bad run with public school when I tried to send David to special ed and early intervention pre-school I joined a support group for homeschoolers of kids with Autism.  While there I learned a method of teaching they like to refer to as "unschooling" which is basically you teach the children as you go about your natural lives.  For example, I

Counting the blessings :)

Yesterday my sons David and Joshua gave me the most precious of gifts.  They helped me see the lighter side of life again and brought innocence and joy back to my heart. :)  God has surely blessed me with these two precious angels. :)  They didn't really do much in the

Day at home :)

Got back home again and am taking it easy today.  I've been running around a lot lately trying to get things done and praying for a few miracles and to be honest I am worn out.  One of my main issues has been my attempts to fight back and save my license but the government can't seem to make up their mind as to what they want from me which is getting very annoying.  I have done everything I can that they have asked and I keep being told after the fact that they decided they wanted something else or that they needed something else first, etc., etc.  A part of me wishes I could sue these people for gas money and babysitters.  Ugghh... this is getting so beyond old and I still haven't gotten anywhere with anything.  I did however win my fight for an extension on the deadline because of everything that's been going on.  Now to get my primary care doctor's office to cooperate for a change.  That would be a miracle in itself it seems.

On a lighter note, I got to share a pretty neat moment with my oldest son the other day.  We were watching my favorite movie (Disney's The Little Mermaid) and he "sang" with me as I sang along to the "Part of Your World" song with Ariel. :)  That was pretty cool. :)

Both of my sons have turned out to love this movie.  Especially the music.  They even dance to the credits at the end instead of just skipping them and hurrying to the next feature like they do on their other movies. lol  All this is pretty special to me because I have always been a huge fan of Ariel and all the Little Mermaid movies and now my boys are too. :)   Of course, sharing my fanship with them will look a little different than if they were daughters, but that doesn't mean we can't still have fun sharing our enjoyment with the movie and it's characters and music. :)

Foul weather is keeping me from being able to get back home.  I am borrowing a comp at the moment but don't know when I will be able to get back on again after this.  Hope everyone is doing well and is at least fairing better weather wise. lol :)  I will do my best to be back on as soon as I can.  Thanks everyone. :)

Checking in

I have to keep this short because I am borrowing my mom's computer and am on a time limit because it is so late here.  Just wanted to let my readers and friends know why I haven't been replying or posting in the last few days.  My van has been in the shop and ended up kept

David LOVES boots lol

And here I thought that having two boys was going to allow me to skip the whole shoe addiction scene. That is until David ran away at the mall and was found in the shoe store trying on more "new boots" lol

A fun craft site :)

A friend of mine on here has a pretty fun craft site blog that I like to follow. :)  She makes a lot of cool and cute things and shares them with her readers.  Go check her out. :)  And tell her Crafter Dream from the "This Is My Life :)" blog sent ya :)

As far as my blog and it's lack of crafts?  Well... my name was picked

Trip to Sam's

I found out tonight Sam's Club (bulk shopping warehouse type store) can quickly become a montrosity of sensory overload for a wound up Autistic toddler...  Flourescent lights everywhere, chaos and crowds, noise everywhere you turn, isles packed with tons of giant items all over the place, colorful options for further than the eye could see in every direction...

Yeah.  I should have seen this one coming from a mile off. lol

A beautiful and comforting song

A friend shared this with me after reading my new year blog and I wanted to share it here.  Very beautiful song with a very comforting reminder. :)

Never Once by Matt Redman

What I do when I blow it

A question that was posted on a support site I follow talked about how hard it can be to have patience with an Autistic child who just can't seem to get it or is intent on trying you and pushing your buttons on a given day or in a given situation.  The question was what shoud one do
